Rabbi Loren Jacobs

Loren Jacobs is the founder and senior Rabbi of Congregation Shema Yisrael (which means "Hear O Israel"). Congregation Shema Yisrael is a Messianic synagogue which was started in 1986 when Rabbi Loren and his wife Martha moved to Michigan to proclaim the Good News about the Messiah to the 100,000 Jewish people living in the metro Detroit area.

Rabbi Loren was raised in a Jewish home in the Chicago area, and became a Messianic Jew in 1975. He graduated from Moody Bible Institute's Jewish Studies program in 1979 and received a Bachelor's degree in Biblical Literature from Northeastern Bible College in New Jersey in 1986. His wife Martha is a fifth generation Messianic Jew - which is quite unusual. They have two adult children.

David Goldstein

David is a Messianic Jew who came to faith in 1994. Since becoming a believer, David has had the chance to share the rich Jewish roots of the Christian faith in the United States and in Japan, where he and his family lived between 1997 and 2003. David works for General Motors and is married with two daughters.

    Available Presentations

Jesus in the Jewish Holidays:
This presentation takes each of the 7 Jewish holidays found in Leviticus, Chapter 23, and discusses how each one relates specifically to what the Messiah would accomplish on earth. The first four Jewish holidays were fulfilled during Messiah’s first coming. The last three have yet to be fulfilled, but point to His second coming.

If desired, each one of the 7 major holidays can be individually presented (a one hour teaching session for each holiday).

Messiah in the Passover:
A look at how Messiah is truly our Passover Lamb. The Passover is the oldest holiday still being celebrated in the world today. And the Passover, with all its ritualistic elements, clearly points to the saving grace of our Messiah.

Messianic Passover Seder: While the Messiah in the Passover presentation is a 50 – 60 minute presentation, there is
also the opportunity to experience a Passover Seder, if you would so choose. This is a 2.5 to 3 hour activity where participants will experience the actual Seder, the “order” of the traditional elements, while reading through the Haggadah, the “telling” of the Passover story and the explanation of the ritualistic elements. We will provide instructions for set up as well as appropriate recipes for you to prepare and then send a representative to lead the Seder.

Hanukkah:
Hanukkah is not one of the 7 major biblical holidays. This holiday celebrates the victory of the Maccabees over the Syrians in 164 B.C. A small group of fighters defeated a vastly superior army. This presentation explores the real meaning behind this holiday.

Messianic Jewish Testimony: How does a Jew come to believe in the Messiah? This is one man’s journey to find the truth and how it affected his life.
